Consistency Builds a Life
Most people wait for the right time. We’re building it—year by year. This is a 25-year journey to explore the world, strengthen our family, and grow through each step along the way.
Not perfectly. But consistently.
Our latest adventure:
Iceland
Starting Iceland the Hard Way
After an overnight flight with zero sleep, a 6:25 a.m. landing, entering a foreign country with very little energy, and being physically exhausted, most travelers would probably decide to call it a day, retreat indoors, find a place to rest, and take a long nap. We decided to go hiking.
The View That Explained Iceland
Over the previous week, we had stood beside roaring waterfalls, walked black sand beaches, crossed lava fields, soaked in a hot river, and driven through landscapes that often felt more like another planet than another country. Every day seemed to reveal a new side of Iceland, and each was impressive in its own way.
Then our guide mentioned a hike.
Finding Íráfoss: The Discovery We Never Planned
The hidden waterfall we had discovered completely by accident suddenly took on a deeper meaning. Years before we ever planned a trip to Iceland, we had listened to that song, attended that concert, and been inspired by its message. Without realizing it, we had wandered into a place that was already connected to our family’s story.
The Day We Stood on the Line That Moves
One of the experiences I was most excited about before leaving home was visiting Grímsey, the northernmost inhabited island in Iceland and the only part of the country that lies inside the Arctic Circle. Reaching it would require a ferry ride across the Arctic Ocean and nearly an entire day devoted to a destination that most Iceland visitors and many Icelandic citizens never see.
What We Expected vs. Reality
Perhaps the biggest surprise of all was how Iceland made me feel. I expected to be exhausted, and I was. The long days, constant movement, and endless opportunities for exploration made this one of the most active trips we had ever taken. But it was the good kind of exhaustion—the kind that comes from being fully engaged, spending all day outdoors with people you love, and being constantly surprised by what is around the next bend in the road.
Why We Chose Iceland
This trip became the beginning of the Epic Travel Plan, a vision to intentionally use travel to experience God’s creation, strengthen our family relationships, visit remote and often unheard-of corners of the world, and build memories that would last long after the suitcases were unpacked.
